Sprouting: Starting a Garden!

Easy Seed Starting: Paper Towel Method

Equipment:

Paper Towel , Small Plate

Instructions:

1. Fold a single paper towel in half 3 times as shown below. Soak paper towel with water until completely damp. Place in a small plate or dish. Place seeds in middle of wet paper towel and fold in half to form a small square. Place in center of paper towel.

2. Keep paper towel damp by adding water periodically. After 3-7 days, the seeds should begin to sprout and small roots will begin to appear from the seeds. Continue adding water to paper towel.

3. The root will continue to grow as long as the paper towel remains wet. When the roots are 1.5 - 2 inches / 3 - 5 cm in length, remove from the paper towel.

4. Fill potting cups or plastic cups with soil mixture. Using a wooden skewer or stick, create a small hole 2 inches / 5 cm deep in middle of cup. Insert root end into hole in soil ensuring the seed remains above or just below top of soil. Add water to soil to keep moist. Plant will begin to grow. Transplant to larger pot once roots have outgrown potting or plastic cup.
